Killed while a Prisoner of WarDied October 26, 1950 in Korea Private Nelson was a Light Weapons Infantryman in Company C, 1st Battalion, 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy in South Korea on July 16, 1950, forced to march to North Korea on the "Tiger Death March", and was killed by a guard at the "Cornfield" near Manpo, North Korea on October 26, 1950. Private Nelson was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
